About the studio

Software that respects the people who use it.

We're an independent studio building a small family of consumer applications around one conviction: the tools that help with your money and your travel should work for you — and only you.

Why we exist

Open most personal-finance or travel-rewards apps and the first thing they ask for is access — to your bank accounts, your card logins, your transaction history. In exchange, you get convenience, and they get a permanent window into your financial life that they can analyze, monetize, and, too often, leak.

The Great Northern Group started from a refusal to accept that bargain. We believe you can build genuinely powerful financial and travel software without harvesting credentials, without storing your data on a server, and without selling your attention to the highest bidder. It's harder to build this way. We think it's the only way worth building.

"We can't sell, leak, or lose what we never collect in the first place."

What we make

We build focused consumer applications, each aimed at a domain people find genuinely stressful — and each designed to make that domain calm and clear.

Lounge is our flagship, available on the App Store. It's a personal rewards advisor that helps premium credit-card holders use the benefits they're already paying for: tracking credits before they expire, planning award travel with real point balances, and showing whether each card earns back its fee.

Clarity, in active development, is a privacy-first personal-finance planner. It lets you map your full financial picture once, then gives you an honest read on where you stand, projections for where you're heading, and clear side-by-side comparisons for the big decisions — buying versus renting, financing versus paying cash, selling versus holding.

Both share the same architecture: your data is entered by you, stays on your device, and is never linked to your financial accounts.

How we operate

We are deliberately small and independent. We don't answer to advertisers or to investors demanding growth at any cost, which means we can optimize for a single thing: building tools that are actually useful to the people who rely on them.

That independence shapes every decision. It's why our paid tiers are ad-free, why we don't take commissions to nudge your choices, and why we'd rather ship a product late and right than early and compromised.

The name

"Great Northern" is a nod to the wide, clear country of the American and Canadian north — to the idea of seeing a long way in clean air. It's the feeling we want our software to give you: a clear, unobstructed view of complicated terrain, so you can decide where to go next with confidence.
